DALLAS
Dallas was picked up as a stray along with a neutered
male Dal (Houston...already adopted). When taken
into rescue we discovered that she has one blue eye and one
brown eye, is deaf...and she was also pregnant!! Since
she was picked
up with a Dal, we all hoped that her babies would be
pure Dalmatian, but that wasn't to be. ["The Tribbles" are
a whole other story! Check out their page under our
"Courtesy" listings.]
In spite of her deafness, Dallas quickly became part of the
pack. She plays with all of her foster brothers and sisters
ages 10 months to 7 years. She quickly picked up some ASL
(American Sign Language) signs, and is now completely
crate-trained and housebroken.
Dallas has been vetted and is negative for heartworms,
on preventive, and up to date on her shots.
As soon as her pups are weaned and she has regained her
beautiful girlish figure, we will have her spayed. Everyone
in the vet's office fell in love with her. She showed no
signs of aggression with anyone who met her puppies. She allowed her
fostermom to deliver the first 5 puppies, then let the
emergency doctor deliver the last one after 4 and 1/2
hours of trying on her own. Since their birth, she has let
any number of people play with her offspring while she kept
watch.
This is what Dallas looked like before and after delivering her six
puppies! This little girl (normal weight about 45 pounds) has
turned out to be an outstanding mother. Even though she cannot
hear them when they squeal, she is so attentive that she never
lets them get lost. She always makes sure that everyone gets fed and
bathed, then lets them crawl all over her until they are snuggled
in for a nap.
We have mentors available to help you learn the few ASL signs
necessary to communicate with a deaf dog, so if you have a
large fenced yard and a caring heart, this little sweetheart
could be cuddling with you.
